Leesa Ellam is the Train­ing Offi­cer for the Illic­it Drugs Analy­sis Unit (IDAU) at NSW Health Pathology’s Foren­sic & Ana­lyt­i­cal Sci­ence Ser­vice (FASS), which pro­vides ana­lyt­i­cal ser­vices relat­ing to sus­pect­ed pro­hib­it­ed drugs, man­u­fac­ture of pro­hib­it­ed drugs, phar­ma­ceu­ti­cals, and oth­er restrict­ed sub­stances. The IDAU pri­mar­i­ly sup­ports the NSW jus­tice sys­tem, but also con­tributes to NSW Health out­comes through drug intel­li­gence projects, pub­lic safe­ty noti­fi­ca­tions, and rapid chem­i­cal analysis.

Leesa over­sees the train­ing pro­gram and man­ages the train­ing activ­i­ties for the IDAU, as well as facil­i­tat­ing lab­o­ra­to­ry and organ­i­sa­tion­al-wide learn­ing and devel­op­ment opportunities.

Leesa has over 15 years of expe­ri­ence in foren­sic and ana­lyt­i­cal sci­ence, includ­ing chem­i­cal analy­sis, crime scene exam­i­na­tion, pro­vi­sion of expert evi­dence in court, and devel­op­ment of com­pre­hen­sive train­ing programs.
