Caroline is about to move from our Bega Laboratory and take a new job as the Laboratory Manager of our Cooma Laboratory in the Snowy Mountains region, but spending time by the beach is where she really unwinds!
What do you do and why does it matter?
I have been Acting Lab Manager at Bega Hospital and in November 2025 I will start a new role as Lab Manager of Cooma, taking over from Jo-Anne Hagger who will be retiring.
I have experience working in both private pathology and public service. Throughout my career I have been passionate about service provision to local communities, my experience ranging from Pre Analytical, Analytical and Post Analytical has been a great learning experience.
My last role as the Acting Laboratory Manager at Bega was very exciting and varied and I learnt so much. I am thrilled to be starting at NSWHP’s Cooma Laboratory on 10 November 2025.
Tell us about your scientific career path and what inspired you to work in pathology?
My journey in pathology started 18 years ago when I studied a Diploma in Pathology testing at the Canberra Institute of Technology, I went on to study a Bachelor in Medical Science at the University of Canberra and I’m currently studying a Master’s in Medical Science (with specialisations).
A proud moment or interesting case?
I was invited to sit on the Committee of the NSW Australian Institute of Medical Scientists (AIMS) this year and it has been an honour to contribute to a body that governs scientists throughout Australia.
What do you like to do to unwind outside of work?
I love to unwind by travelling and exploring new places. I love going to different part of the world and experience unique cultures. I also love the beach, and hearing the waves crashing is very therapeutic for me.
