Perinatal Post-mortem Facilitator, Clinical Midwife Specialist

Awabakal. Ms Fiona O’Shannessy

Fiona O’Shannessy is a Clin­i­cal Mid­wife Spe­cial­ist work­ing for the Peri­na­tal Post-mortem Ser­vice. She has been a prac­tis­ing mid­wife for over 35 years. Her expe­ri­ence in remote and region­al Aus­tralia has taught her the impor­tance of hav­ing ded­i­cat­ed clin­i­cians as a point of con­tact for bereaved fam­i­lies who are con­sid­er­ing or have con­sent­ed to a peri­na­tal post-mortem.

She believes strong­ly in edu­ca­tion and enjoys trav­el­ling to region­al hos­pi­tals to meet and sup­port col­leagues. She hopes to increase the con­fi­dence and knowl­edge clin­i­cians have when under­tak­ing con­ver­sa­tions with fam­i­lies con­sid­er­ing a peri­na­tal post-mortem.
