Michael Symonds is a mem­ber of the Aus­tralia New Zealand Foren­sic Exec­u­tive Com­mit­tee (ANZFEC) and the Aus­tralian & New Zealand Foren­sic Sci­ence Soci­ety (ANZFSS). He has pri­or expe­ri­ence in clin­i­cal ser­vice pro­vi­sion as a diag­nos­tic radi­og­ra­ph­er and has exten­sive expe­ri­ence in health ser­vice lead­er­ship, hav­ing pre­vi­ous­ly held the roles of Direc­tor Hunter New Eng­land Imag­ing and Breast­Screen NSW HNE and Gen­er­al Man­ag­er of the John Hunter Hos­pi­tal. He has also par­tic­i­pat­ed in mul­ti­ple mis­sions as a tech­ni­cal coop­er­a­tion expert with the Inter­na­tion­al Atom­ic Ener­gy Agency (IAEA).

As the State Con­troller for NSW Health Pathol­o­gy, Michael is respon­si­ble for ser­vice wide emer­gency man­age­ment response.

It is Michael’s great priv­i­lege to lead the Foren­sic & Ana­lyt­i­cal Sci­ence Ser­vice and to work along­side our expert teams across the foren­sic and envi­ron­men­tal sci­ences and foren­sic med­i­cine as they pro­vide the high­est qual­i­ty ser­vices to the NSW community.
