Congratulations to our Forensic Medicine Social Work team in Newcastle who have been inducted into the University of Newcastle’s Work Integrated Learning Hall of Fame as part of the 2022 Employability Excellence Awards.
The Awards recognise organisations such as NSW Health Pathology that provide professional preparation opportunities for students and support the university to produce ‘life ready’ graduates.
Our Forensic Medicine Social Work team has been working closely with the university since 2011, providing facilitated experiential workshops to all third and fourth year Social Work students as part of their field education experience as well as hosting students on placement.
Our team also provides direct input into the development and delivery of key areas of BSW (Hons) course content such as grief and loss, theory and practice, violence and trauma, interpersonal skills, group-work and organisational practice.
“We have a strong commitment to helping develop social work graduates who are fit and ready for practice in this challenging, meaningful and life-changing profession”, said Danny Nugus, Senior Forensic Medicine Social Worker.
“We have many University of Newcastle graduates employed at Forensic Medicine Newcastle who also did their placement with us.”
“The majority of social workers employed at Forensic Medicine Newcastle are University of Newcastle graduates, many of whom did a placement with us.”
“What sets these students apart is that the Bachelor of Social Work program has both an experiential learning model and an Honours degree with a research component that equips graduates with the academic integrity, research ethic and transferable knowledge and skills that are integral to effective, ethical, safe and sustainable social work practice,” said Danny.
Well done to the team – we are grateful and proud of the important work you do to support bereaved families.
