Dr Ryan has been work­ing as a Chem­i­cal Pathol­o­gist for more than 10 years and is cur­rent­ly Clin­i­cal Direc­tor of the Chem­i­cal Pathol­o­gy Depart­ment Nepean and super­vis­ing chem­i­cal pathol­o­gist for a num­ber of lab­o­ra­to­ries and PoCT in Nepean Blue Moun­tains, West­ern NSW and Far West LHDs.

In addi­tion to his role as Clin­i­cal Stream Lead for Chem­i­cal Pathol­o­gy he is also co-chair of the SDPR Clin­i­cal Pathol­o­gy Mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary Work­ing Group, chair of the Clin­i­cal Work­ing Group (chem­i­cal pathol­o­gy) and is a Clin­i­cal Lec­tur­er with the Uni­ver­si­ty of Syd­ney. Areas of spe­cial inter­est are pre­an­a­lyt­i­cal phase errors and PoCT.

He is also cur­rent­ly part of the project team sup­port­ing the roll­out of new, state-of-the-art chem­istry analy­sers and automa­tion across mul­ti­ple NSWHP laboratories.

Our chemical pathologists analyse chemicals in our body fluids and tissues to help diagnose and manage disease. They play a unique dual role of doctor-scientist, looking at changes in human body chemistry for screening, diagnosis, prognosis and management.
