Dr Ryan has been working as a Chemical Pathologist for more than 10 years and is currently Clinical Director of the Chemical Pathology Department Nepean and supervising chemical pathologist for a number of laboratories and PoCT in Nepean Blue Mountains, Western NSW and Far West LHDs.
In addition to his role as Clinical Stream Lead for Chemical Pathology he is also co-chair of the SDPR Clinical Pathology Multidisciplinary Working Group, chair of the Clinical Working Group (chemical pathology) and is a Clinical Lecturer with the University of Sydney. Areas of special interest are preanalytical phase errors and PoCT.
He is also currently part of the project team supporting the rollout of new, state-of-the-art chemistry analysers and automation across multiple NSWHP laboratories.

Our chemical pathologists analyse chemicals in our body fluids and tissues to help diagnose and manage disease. They play a unique dual role of doctor-scientist, looking at changes in human body chemistry for screening, diagnosis, prognosis and management.
Our Strategic Leadership Team (SLT) enacts the strategy of NSW Health Pathology and directions of the NSW Health Pathology Board. Members ensure we deliver quality, human-centred pathology and forensic and analytical science services across NSW.
