Your Rights & Responsibilities

Everyone seeking or receiving healthcare in NSW has certain rights and responsibilities. These include the right to access, safety, respect, communication, participation, privacy and to comment on their care.

A partnership between patients and public healthcare providers leads to the best possible outcomes.

NSW Health Pathology staff play a vital role in this process as people seeking or receiving care are not always in the position to review their rights. Our staff are guided by Your Healthcare Rights and Responsibilities – A Guide for NSW Health Staff, which explains how these rights are achieved in NSW.

A guide for patients, carers and families explains what NSW Health consumers, their carers and families can expect from the public health system, including NSW Health Pathology.

The guide includes a poster for display in public areas outlining rights and responsibilities.
