X‑Team 5 in NSWHP’s Health Leadership Program brought together a diverse group of eight staff members in different positions, locations and disciplines within the organisation to explore the adaptive challenge of creating a culture of psychological safety and respect in our workplaces.
Over the course of the 10-month program, the team gathered comprehensive knowledge, research data and personal experiences. Using the tangible data and information, they collectively put forward a set of recommendations with the aim to boldly transform the way NSW Health Pathology approaches psychological safety and reframe how we continue to build our culture.
These recommendations focused on building culture through incorporating safety our organisational priorities and values, investing in development initiatives to create a more empathetic and aware workforce, and achieving cost savings through better psychosocial risk management.
This project demonstrates how reframing an existing concept and changing the way we approach it, can have a large impact on the general health and wellbeing of our people and culture.
