Local Pathology Director, Sydney (Royal Prince Alfred and Canterbury Hospitals)
Gadigal, Eora.Prof Kench is the Local Pathology Director of Royal Prince Alfred and Canterbury Hospitals, based in Sydney Local Health District. He was also the Head of Department for NSW Health Pathology’s Tissue Pathology and Diagnostic Oncology Department at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital from 2009 ‑2022. He has nationally and internationally recognised subspecialty expertise in prostatic, pancreatic, hepatic and gastrointestinal pathology. Prof Kench has published over 260 peer reviewed journal articles, including in journals such as Nature, Lancet Oncology, JNCI, Cancer Cell, Journal of Clinical Oncology etc, plus 8 books and book chapters, with >36,000 citations. He is also the past President of the International Collaboration on Cancer Reporting (ICCR) and a current member of the IARC WHO Classification of Tumours Standing Editorial Board. In his spare time, James likes to pursue his interests in Roman history, culture, travel and cricket (never misses Moore Park in the first week of January!).
