Darug.Professor David Brown is the Director of NSW Health Pathology’s Institute of Clinical Pathology and Medical Research and Deputy Director of the Centre for Immunology and Allergy Research at the Westmead Institute for Medical Research. He earned his MBBS in 1989 and PhD in 2003 from the University of NSW (UNSW) and completed postdoctoral training at the Salk Institute. A specialist in immunology and immunopathology, he is a Conjoint Professor at the University of Sydney and an Adjunct Professor at UNSW. His research focuses on inflammation and its effects on the central nervous system, particularly in treatment-resistant psychiatric disease. Having successfully commercialised his research on GDF15 internationally, he leads a program bridging neuroimmunology basic and clinical research, and therapeutic trials, aiming to develop infrastructure for personalised treatment to prevent chronic disease and more closely align health span to life span.
