Pro­fes­sor David Brown is the Direc­tor of NSW Health Pathology’s Insti­tute of Clin­i­cal Pathol­o­gy and Med­ical Research and Deputy Direc­tor of the Cen­tre for Immunol­o­gy and Aller­gy Research at the West­mead Insti­tute for Med­ical Research. He earned his MBBS in 1989 and PhD in 2003 from the Uni­ver­si­ty of NSW (UNSW) and com­plet­ed post­doc­tor­al train­ing at the Salk Insti­tute. A spe­cial­ist in immunol­o­gy and immunopathol­o­gy, he is a Con­joint Pro­fes­sor at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Syd­ney and an Adjunct Pro­fes­sor at UNSW. His research focus­es on inflam­ma­tion and its effects on the cen­tral ner­vous sys­tem, par­tic­u­lar­ly in treat­ment-resis­tant psy­chi­atric dis­ease. Hav­ing suc­cess­ful­ly com­mer­cialised his research on GDF15 inter­na­tion­al­ly, he leads a pro­gram bridg­ing neu­roim­munol­o­gy basic and clin­i­cal research, and ther­a­peu­tic tri­als, aim­ing to devel­op infra­struc­ture for per­son­alised treat­ment to pre­vent chron­ic dis­ease and more close­ly align health span to life span.
