Dr New­ton has worked as a Staff Spe­cial­ist Med­ical Micro­bi­ol­o­gist in the Illawar­ra Shoal­haven Local Health Dis­trict since 1996 and has been the Local Pathol­o­gy Direc­tor for the Illawar­ra Shoal­haven Local Health Dis­trict since 2017. He has been a Clin­i­cal Senior Lec­tur­er with the Grad­u­ate School of Med­i­cine, Uni­ver­si­ty of Wol­lon­gong since 2007. He is a con­tribut­ing mem­ber of the Aus­tralian Group on Antimi­cro­bial Resis­tance (AGAR) and has been an active mem­ber of the Wol­lon­gong Antimi­cro­bial Resis­tance Research Alliance (WARRA) since its incep­tion in 2017. He enjoys a col­lab­o­ra­tive work­ing rela­tion­ship with clin­i­cal part­ners in the Local Health Dis­trict and researchers from the Uni­ver­si­ty of Wol­lon­gong. He is pas­sion­ate about improv­ing access to high qual­i­ty and cost effec­tive diag­nos­tic pathol­o­gy ser­vices for the Illawar­ra and Shoal­haven communities.
