Dr Michael Legg PhD FAICD FAIDH FFSc(RCPA) first trained as a sci­en­tist and researcher in phys­i­ol­o­gy and pathol­o­gy. He went on to lead not-for-prof­it and for-prof­it health­care organ­i­sa­tions includ­ing a pathol­o­gy prac­tice that won the Aus­tralian Qual­i­ty Award. For the last 20 years he has been a con­sul­tant health infor­mati­cian includ­ing time as the Pres­i­dent of the Health Infor­mat­ics Soci­ety of Australia.

He was the foun­da­tion Chair of the RCPA Infor­mat­ics Com­mit­tee and leader of the PITUS Project as well as leader of Stan­dards Aus­tralia and HL7 Stan­dards Com­mit­tees for pathol­o­gy infor­mat­ics. He has par­tic­i­pat­ed in Nation­al Com­mit­tees relat­ed to qual­i­ty, Medicare ben­e­fits and health reg­u­la­tion and pol­i­cy. He con­tin­ues as a Fel­low of the Aus­tralian Insti­tute of Health Innovation.

Dr Legg has been a mem­ber of the NSW Health Pathol­o­gy Board for six years and rep­re­sents the Board in the Qual­i­ty and Patient Safe­ty Sub-com­mit­tee, Clin­i­cal Coun­cil and the Fusion Stake­hold­er Committee.

Clinical Governance (Quality & Patient Safety)

Supports all staff to continuously and measurably improve the quality, safety and experience of our services. Includes support for continuous quality improvement, clinical incident management, complaints management, quality assurance and accreditation, and policy development for quality and safety.

Corporate Governance

Supports delivery of efficient, effective and transparent services. Includes legal, risk management, internal audit, policy, privacy, records management and GIPA (freedom of information) functions.

Finance & Corporate Services

Ensures responsible financial management of public funding; financial and management accounting; tax; revenue; billing; and private practice arrangements. Manages procurement, fleet management, business development and environmental initiatives to increase sustainability.

Our Strategic Leadership Team (SLT) enacts the strategy of NSW Health Pathology and directions of the NSW Health Pathology Board. Members ensure we deliver quality, human-centred pathology and forensic and analytical science services across NSW.

Every day, our NSW Health Pathology colleagues take part in innovative research to improve public health and safety.

Strategy & Transformation

Sets strategic direction and drives service transformation to meet the evolving needs of patients and partners in healthcare. Responsible for planning, performance and innovation, and operational management of genomics, point of care testing and six clinical streams.
