Our chemical pathologists analyse chemicals in our body fluids and tissues to help diagnose and manage disease. They play a unique dual role of doctor-scientist, looking at changes in human body chemistry for screening, diagnosis, prognosis and management.
Local Pathology Director, Hunter New England and Mid North Coast Local Health Districts
Based in Newcastle, Associate Professor Huy Tran manages the pathology service for the Hunter and is responsible for ensuring the connectedness of pathology with other clinical services in the District.
He supervises all branches of public pathology in both Hunter New England Health and Mid North Coast Local Health Districts, to ensure the highest quality service to our patients and the community.
Associate Professor Tran works closely with our hospital clinician and executive partners to ensure pathology runs smoothly and help with the management of patients. He also works to increase awareness and education around requests for pathology tests and the most effective utilisation of pathology services.
In addition to managing the local pathology team, Associate Professor Tran is an experienced Chemical Pathologist. He brings a wealth of experience to the position with over 20 years of working in public pathology.
