What you’ll be doing
Performing a range of laboratory investigations and tests (manual and automated) and technical tasks. Undertaking other laboratory duties including preparation of materials and the maintenance of equipment in line with established laboratory processes, procedures and protocols.
About you
You’ll have the following expertise and qualities:
- Minimum qualification of Diploma in Laboratory Technology or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution with subjects relevant to pathology or medical laboratory operations.
- Knowledge of and experience in the delivery of pathology services within the discipline to which we’re recruiting (e.g. Chemical Pathology, Microbiology etc).
- Ability to work in a team and autonomously to deliver results within specified timeframes,
- A customer-focused approach, well-developed communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with patients, customers and clinical laboratory staff.
- Initiative, problem solving and analytical skills including ability to apply established principles and investigate and resolve general and complex issues within the laboratory environment.
What do Medical Laboratory Technicians do?
We’re Australia’s largest public pathology and forensic service, employing 5000 people and performing more than 100,000 clinical and scientific investigations each day across 60 NSW labs.
Our technicians work in dedicated team of scientists and clinicians in public hospital laboratories in metropolitan, regional and rural NSW, and our forensic science labs in Sydney.
You need to be level-headed and have good laboratory and organisational skills, an eye for detail and excellent communication skills. You’ll work in an on-call roster and take advantage of the professional development opportunities we offer.
All you need to start is a Diploma in Laboratory Technology.
I had an interest in how diseases progress, not only the science and theory; I find satisfaction in achieving excellence in patient care and improving quality of life for patients.
A typical day for me involves running patient samples and ensuring patients are getting results in a quick and timely manner. I also take care of the analyser and make sure the results that are produced are reliable and that clinicians can trust the results.
We get to experience how other disciplines operate as well as building our knowledge and growing our career.
