Immunology

Our immunologists help us better understand and treat diseases of the human immune system.

About our Immunology Pathology service

We help people whose immune systems are not working as they should, which results in allergies, asthma, autoimmune disorders and more.

Our laboratories are staffed with highly skilled teams of clinicians, scientists and technicians.

Our tests diagnose disorders of the immune system such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and coeliac disease.

Service overview

Immunopathology is a branch of medicine that deals with immune responses associated with disease. Immunology combines laboratory medicine and clinical practice to diagnose and treat a range of immune diseases and disorders.

Production of antibodies is central to the body’s ability to fight infection. Without adequate levels of antibodies, the body’s defence is lowered but too many antibodies can lead to disorders known as autoimmune disease. Immunodeficiency is where the immune system doesn’t respond as it should to protect us.

Our areas of specialty include:

  • Allergy testing
  • Autoimmune serology
  • Specialised immunochemistry
  • Immunogenetics
  • Infection immunology
  • Flow cytometry.

Immunopathology assays require significant interpretation, and many are labour intensive and not suited to automation. Our experienced and highly trained scientific staff are committed to providing timely, high quality results for our patients and clinicians.
